Development Story

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, our company found an unconventional way to maintain a sense of normalcy—we dined in our cars instead of restaurants. This new routine quickly became an adventure in itself. One day, I decided to enhance our car dining experience by purchasing a popular steering wheel tray from Amazon. It seemed like the perfect solution—until I realized my steering wheel cover had to go.

Reluctantly, I removed it, only to later discover a nasty scratch on the wheel. At first, it seemed like a minor inconvenience, but it soon turned into a painful problem when the scratch gave me a cut on my finger while driving. Talk about frustrating!

Meanwhile, my colleague, intrigued by our in-car dining setup, asked how I managed it. Eager to help, I recommended the steering wheel tray. However, he quickly pointed out a significant flaw—his Dodge RAM pickup truck wasn't compatible with the tray. This feedback, combined with my own mishap, left me tired of the product's limitations.

Determined to find a better solution, I teamed up with a product designer friend. Together, we brainstormed and sketched out ideas until we came up with a new design tailored to fit a wider range of vehicles, including those elusive pickups. Armed with a 3D printer, we brought our vision to life, creating a custom, versatile steering wheel tray that finally met our needs. And just like that, a small pandemic inconvenience sparked a journey of innovation and problem-solving.
